From Metaverse to Reality: Coca-Cola Introduces First Ever Virtual Reality Drink

From Metaverse to Reality: Coca-Cola Introduces First Ever Virtual Reality Drink

Coca-Cola announced the release of a limited-edition metaverse drink branded as Coca-Cola Zero Sugar Byte last month. On April 4th, the company released the drink in limited quantities across several Latin American nations. Coca-Cola Zero Sugar Byte is now available for purchase in the United States from May 2nd, establishing a gateway between the physical world and virtual reality (VR) through twin packs of 12.5-oz compact cans.

What Does Coca-Cola Sugar Byte Tastes Like?

Oana Vlad, The Coca-Cola Company’s senior director of global strategy, defined it before its debut as “an innovative taste inspired by the playfulness of pixels, rooted in the experiences that gaming makes possible.” This has got the gaming community excited to test the new flavored drink fresh from the virtual reality world.

The Coca-Cola Zero Sugar Byte tastes sugary and has a nice sweet smell. When compared to regular Coca-Cola Zero, the color has changed to a little lighter hue. It has quite a loud fizz compared to the amount in three cans of Coca-Cola soda. The flavor might be distasteful to some, while some enjoy the drink and games offered by Coca-Cola.

Why did Coca-Cola Launch a pixel-flavored drink?

This is not new to Coca-Cola; the brand itself has a time-honored connection with gaming. In February, the brand released Starlight, a limited edition that allows customers to attend an AR concert by Ava Max. Last year, Coca-Cola introduced its first-ever NFT collectibles, followed by four other Coca-Cola NFTs. The metaverse and virtual reality worlds are a great hub for brands to hook their audience to their products.

Sold as the first-ever drink from the metaverse, Coca-Cola Zero Sugar Byte has taken over the metaverse world. The company also said, “Coca-Cola Zero Sugar Byte will bring the flavor of pixels to life in a limited-edition beverage that transcends the digital and physical worlds.”

What is the Coca-Cola AR Game?

Coca-Cola unveiled a new set of mini-games for consumers who purchased the Zero Sugar Byte package. With its inclusion in Fortnite, the user users can access the AR game by scanning the code on the Coca-Cola creations website.

Coca-Cola described the AR Game as follows, “The game tells the story of BYTE, an 8-bit pixel left behind when Coca-Cola Byte entered the metaverse. Using fingers to hold down arrows, players will guide BYTE to ‘jump’ up a spiral staircase so the lone pixel can rejoin the Coca-Cola logo. Players’ finish times will show up in a virtual reality cyberspace leaderboard that can be shared on social media.”

How are Brands Benefiting from AR and VR Marketing Campaigns?

Recently, more and more businesses are entering the metaverse to provide their users with an immersive, personalized experience. Other mega-corporations, like Coca-Cola, have used AR and VR elements to bring things to life.
